View of the Lake and part of the Eastern Road from Rangoon taken form the Advance of the 7th Madras Native Infantry. A large folio plate from Lieutenant Joseph Moore’s Rangoon Views, and Combined Operations in the Birman Empire 1st series of 18 plates, published 1825. This is Plate 11 Drawn by J Moore, Engraved by H Pyall. Pubd. Novr. 9th 1825 by Kingsbury & Co. Leadenhall Street and Thos Clay, 18 Ludgate Hill, London. The finely hand coloured aquatint 18 x 14¾ ins. The margin outside the plate lines is a little creased and soiled along the top edge Abbey Travel in Aquatint and Lithography 1770-1860 Vol 2 lists this title 404 giving the size uncut as 21½ x 14¾ ins. The plates were originally produced loose in a folder and a second series followed in 1826. Even single plates from this series of views made during the First Burma War command high prices. The detail illustrations accompanying this listing show the degree of detail in the drawing and the delicacy of the colouring.       oct14/1
