The blue cloth helmet retains all its fittings and is in rather ‘sleepy’ condition with a little surface mothing to the right hand side [viewed from the front] but there are no holes in the cloth. This pattern of helmet with this badge was worn from 1881, when the regiment ceased using the old pattern with 48 in the centre, until 1901, when the crown changed on Victoria’s death. The central silver device consists of the castle with key and the battle honours Gibraltar above and Talavera below.
