Silhouette portrait of Sir Tatton Sykes, York 1830
The silhouette shows a gentleman, bust length, wearing a low top hat of the type used when riding. It has some bronzing and some blue detailing and appears to be painted on card. The sitter is identified as Sir Tatton Sykes, York 1830. It is in a glazed gilt brass frame of the type often inserted into a wooded or papier mache black frame. The old backing paper has a label reading Sir James Yoxall Collection.
The Sykes family have long lived at Sledmere House to the east of York.
