Signed portrait of the Earl of Ronaldshay as Governor of Bengal, 1917


The portrait shows Lord Ronaldshay [1876-1961, later 2nd Marquess of Zetland] full length wearing court dress with sword and the sash and star of the Order of the Indian Empire and is mounted on a photographer’s card and signed “Ronaldshay” on the mount, minor damage ot the edge of the card and some discolouration to the card margins but the photograph remains in excellent condition,14 x 20cm [5.5 x 8ins] . Ronaladshay had previously served in India as an Aide de Camp to Lord Curzon when he was Viceroy of India. He travelled widely in Asia and wrote several books inspired by his adventures of travel and sport. On leaving Bengal he was awarded a GCSI and he succeeded his father as second Marquess of Zetland in 1926.
