JUNAGADH. A portrait of H H The Nawab of Junagadh in a book of 1884.
Watson, Colonel J W. President, Rajasthani Court, Kathiawar: Statistical Account of Junagadh; being the Junagadh Contribution to the Kathiawar Portion of the Bombay Gazetteer. Printed at the Bombay Gazette Steam Press [Bombay] 1884 1st edition thus, 8vo.
Frontispiece portrait of H H The Nawab of Junagadh, iv, 104pp, folded statistical table. Original pictorial blue cloth gilt, spine very worn, front hinge very fragile, paper rather brittle with portrait, title page and first few pages detached. Frankly the cover and the portrait are the best parts of this book. The banner with the Nawab’s arms is a representation of his example of the banners given to the ruling princes attending the 1877 Imperial Assemblage in Delhi. These and the large gold medals were a great success with these princes. The banners are still occasionally to be found in palaces around India and a good selection can best be seen in thew Imperial Hotel in Delhi today. nov17/4
