Indian Cavalry Officer in full dress uniform, circa 1920 in kurta and lungi
A striking full length portrait of an unidentified Indian Army British officer wearing full dress uniform. The portrait measures 7.5 x 5.5 inches and is mounted on old photographer’s card. There is a hole crudely made in the top of the card and the photograph has a brownish hue, appearing to have been varnished in some way – presumably for protection in the Indian climate. The uniform is typical of most Indian cavalry regiments’ full dress and. although one can rule out a number of regiments because of the use of toggles rather buttons to fasten the kurta, it has not yet been possible to identify the precise regiment. He wears the 1903 Delhi Durbar medal and the War and Victory medals of the first world war and he holds a sword of the 1908 cavalry pattern.
