Fatehpur Sikri, a good general view of the abandoned city

A good, 11 x 8½ inch, richly toned vintage view of the abandoned city with its fine Mughal architecture to be seen some 20 miles from Agra. Built on a sandstone ridge by Emperor Akbar [ruled from 1556 -1605], it was abandoned by him in favour of his new city at Agra because the site lacked easy access to water, making it impractical. The eerie serenity captured in these old photographs can seldom be fully appreciated today because of the city’s popularity with tourists. FS3       60     SOLD  25th March 2020
