Cooch Behar. The Maharaja in Calcutta during the Durbar celebrations of 1911.


An attractive little full length portrait of H H  Maharaja Raj Rajindra Narayan Bhup Bahadur of Cooch Behar taken during the Durbar celebrations which continued in Calcutta after the more formal events in Delhi. He wears medals for Coronation of Edward VII, the 1903 Delhi Durbar, and the 1911 Delhi Durbar. Only a few months before the Durbar he had succeeded to the Ghadi on the death his older brother and he himself was to die in 1913 to be succeeded by a younger brother, Jitendra. The photograph is pasted to part of an old album leaf with a contemporary inscription. 14 SOLD 14th March 2020
