9th Gurkhas, brass 24mm button

An unusual cast button with flat back. There is no maker’s mark but it is almost certainly of Indian manufacture. Despite the numbering system of the Gurkha Rifles Regiments the 9th is the senior, taking precendence over the others. The 9th traces its origins back to 1817 and its first battle honour was Bhurtpore. During WWI it increased its strengthThe regiment usually wore black horn buttons and this brass example appears to be unrecorded.
