48th Bengal Native Infantry, officer’s 17mm

The small sized officer’s button retains some of the gilt finish and is of the standard East India Company style for the early Victorian period with the regimental number within a garter surrounded by a wreath with the design in high relief. The backmark is JENNENS, LONDON. The regiment had battle honours for Affghanistan, Ghuznee, Moodkee, Ferozeshuhur, and Aliwal. It was stationed at Allahabad in 1857 but mutinied in that year at the  beginning of the rebellion that ended the Company’s rule.    oct14/4    SOLD 9th April 2021
