39th Garhwal Rifles. Three photographs of rooms in the officers’ mess, circa 1910

Three photographs on an old card album leaf. On one side are two images of the officers’ mess dining room showing the table laid for dinner with mess silver in down the centre. The different views show the walls heavily laded with displays of hunting trophies – mainly Himalayan sheep and antelope of various kinds. On the verso is an image of the hall with comfortable leather sofas beneath walls displaying tiger skins and further heads. These somewhat unusual images for the time [about 1910] show the degree of style in which Indian army officers lived in Edwardian times. Each image is in excellent condition with strong toning and measures 6 x 8 ins. SOLD 27th February 2020
