21st Empress of India’s Lancers. Large, curved two part regimental badge in brass

A large cast brass Edwardian two part badge of the 21st Lancers which has possibly been on one of the kettle drums carried by the drum horse of the regiment’s mounted band. This proudly displays the battle honour of Khartoum beneath the usual badge. The badge itself, of curved brass, retains all its original fixings although one is missing from the crown. The badge measures 10 x 7 ins at its greatest height and width, the crown 2¼ x 2¼ ins. A most unusual military relic. we cannot imagine that it can have been made in this curved form unless for fixing to a drum. We have come across cavalry drums which have been given to senior officers in the past. For full details of the provenance of this item please see the notes on the full dress tunic elsewhere in this collection.
