108th Regt of Foot, 3rd Madras European Regt.
£12.00
A carte de visite sized photograph, 3½ x 2¼ ins, circa early 1870s, with crudely arched top, pasted to fairly modern card. The officer, wearing a patrol jacket, is shown half length and his cap on the table before him reveals him to be a member of the 108th Foot. This was formerly the 3rd Madras European Regiment and one of those which were absorbed into the British line after the Mutiny. In the early 1870s it was stationed in Bombay. After the 1881 army reforms it became the 2nd Bn Inniskilling Fusiliers and was finally disbanded with other Irish regiments in 1922. jan18/1
